TESTIMONIALS

Let's hear what our students
have to say

Arvin John H. Laudit
Self-Employed

“Sir Ricky, because of you I finally realized that the writing world is the world I want to spend the rest of my life in. This is my purpose.

As a first time Ricky Lee workshopper in Pelikulove, I can say the whole community is very welcoming and kind to one another. Makikita mo na everyone cares about their fellow writers.”

Jose Mojica
College Lecturer

“What makes this different is the Filipinoness, truly for Filipino writers.

The exercises are also very useful because they compel student writers to think differently, to explore possibilities. I’d continue doing the given exercises because they’re also useful for my other writing (script and fiction).”

Beryl Lao
Virtual Assistant

“This course is probably worth P5,000 and up just for the video lessons and handouts.

I know it’s worth more because you’ll really learn a lot. Actually, it will inspire you to just start writing. It reminded me of all the things I love about theater.”

Christine Marie Magpile, LPT
University Research Associate II

“I congratulate Prof. Joel David and the organizers of Pelikulove for offering this Masterclass. Kindly support their other classes and courses such as scriptwriting.

Surely, participants will learn a lot from well-respected professors-scholars and distinguished directors.”

Rimar Joe C. Reynado
ATRIEVIT Center for the Blind

“Grabe, napakasustansya po ng workshop na ito.

Ako bilang bulag ay nag-enjoy sa workshop na ito,

natutunan ang […] mga techniques sa paggawa ng isang tauhan […] at tignan ang isang istorya sa napakaraming perspektibo. Maraming salamat po sir Ricky Lee.”

Nastassja Ariele C. Braceros
Student

I’ve learned a lot that isn’t taught before and learned new unfamiliar terminologies related to writing. I could definitely use the lessons discussed in the workshop on my course and in the future.

It was a pleasant experience exchanging ideas and techniques with people I haven’t met before and I can say that it was one of the greatest experiences I ever had.

WHO WE ARE

Bakit kami nagmamahal?

Pelikulove is a portmanteau of the words Pelikula (Filipino for “film”) and Love. Because we believe both art and love have the power to change the world. Combining the two makes it even more powerful.

We started out in 2015 as a promo page for our film Lakbay2Love, but quickly realized the promise of the internet as the new frontier. After all, at no time in history can artists dream of putting up their own channel. We originally wanted to create a video channel for Pinoy indie artists and even cinematically shot plays on video to share with a larger online audience. But in studying other start-up companies, we found an alarming lack of access to arts education. We had to do something about it.

So in 2019, we launched the first playwriting course of its kind, the Rody Vera Online Playwriting Course which was met with good reviews and hundreds of students. When the pandemic hit in 2020, we affirmed how important art is in reviving the country’s spirit and in bringing people together towards a worthy cause.

So our team marched on to produce the following videos which served as inspirational and educational content, even fundraising efforts for fellow cultural workers and frontliners. All of this we’re sharing with you, free of charge.

Be part of the Pelikulove Community

Pelikulove would not have survived all these years and continue to do so without its loving community–the support of artists, mentors, students, volunteers and staff who believe in the power of arts and culture.

Pelikulove works as a social enterprise and we hope that someday we are able to create and sustain a community where artists are the stakeholders, where artists can own their work, and profit is shared fairly amongst the people who work on it.

Let us build a community of kindred spirits! A safe space to share your art, a venue to grow together as artists and collaborate with other like-minded creators.
